It’s official. Thanksgiving is over. It is usually my favorite holiday. I love having my house full of people, making lots of delicious food and keeping busy in the kitchen. I don’t know if it is because school has been so busy with the kids or I was having some kitchen burn out but this year I was the scrooge of Turkey Day. I think we will be taking a little break next year. This was my NINTH year hosting…and I deserve a break! See? I’m STILL grumpy!

Fried Brussel Sprout Leaves with Sea Salt

For the hubby’s birthday, I kidnapped him from work and took him to Chicago for the weekend. We haven’t been to Chicago since I was seven months pregnant with Pixie. You see, one of my best girlfriends lives in the windy city and she’s single. And knows how to have a blast. Essentially, this was a bucket list kind of trip. And since I had almost just kicked said bucket, I knew we had to go!

Smoked Gouda and Drunk Onion Quesadillas

These quesadillas were another huge hit at every party we catered. They are so easy and so, so, so good. People would ask, “how do you get the onions to taste so sweet yet savory.” Our answer? Get ’em good and drunk! Add half a bottle of wine and boil the hell out of ’em.

Weird name, right? I know! It’s a Hungarian recipe. And it’s one of the best ever cheese spreads you will ever make in your kitchen. It’s simple and so tasty. The original recipe calls for caraway seeds but I think caraway seeds are truly pure yuck so I omit them from my recipe. However, if you like caraway and you are absolutely positively sure that your family and friends who will devour this spread love it as well, add it in to your own taste.
